Eight scenes of Spanish popular life painted by Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer’s younger brother in 1866 and 1867, shown complete for the first time. Room 60 is small: twenty minutes, best folded into a longer Prado visit.

More than 150 objects on loan from the British Museum on the last great Assyrian king, who assembled one of history’s first libraries at Nineveh. A solid archaeological show, more text than spectacle: allow ninety minutes.

Over fifty works by Felix Gonzalez-Torres, who died of AIDS in 1996: carpets of sweets and stacks of paper made to be taken away and used up by visitors, not kept under glass. The museum has extended it into metro stations.

Pre-Raphaelitism told through the women who practised it: more than forty artists, from Elizabeth Siddal and Julia Margaret Cameron to May Morris, Marie Spartali Stillman and Evelyn De Morgan. Curated by Pamela Gerrish Nunn with La Piscine in Roubaix.

Twenty-five works travel between the two museums, and Dutch painting from The Hague comes to Madrid: Vermeer’s View of Delft, in a room of its own, a Rembrandt tronie and a winter scene by Avercamp, with Frans Hals, Pieter de Hooch and Jan Steen.

La Menesunda, the environment Marta Minujín and Rubén Santantonín built in Buenos Aires in 1965, is something you walk through rather than look at. This is the 2015 reconstruction by the Museo Moderno de Buenos Aires, made with the artist, shown in Spain for the first time.
