Twenty-five works travel between the two museums, and Dutch painting from The Hague comes to Madrid: Vermeer’s View of Delft, in a room of its own, a Rembrandt tronie and a winter scene by Avercamp, with Frans Hals, Pieter de Hooch and Jan Steen.

Works by psychiatric patients gathered in Heidelberg in the Prinzhorn Collection, shown with the avant-garde artists they marked. The Nazis used the same comparison to brand modern art as degenerate, while Dubuffet drew Art Brut from it.

Dalí read Freud obsessively and finally met him in London in 1938, when Freud was in exile. From there Jaime Brihuega rereads his whole career in six sections, alongside Ingres, Tanguy, Arp and Ramón y Cajal. Some rooms deal with explicit sexual themes.

At the Palacio de Velázquez in the Retiro, the Madrid sculptor takes apart the symbols of power: a monument becomes a swing, two riot trucks dance a pas de deux. The title is the pearl found in Panama in the sixteenth century, whose whereabouts are now unknown.

The Colombian artist, born in Bogotá in 1946, works on drug trafficking, migration and Indigenous heritage. The show includes Grano, from 1980, made with soil from his family’s land in Tolima, and David, with a soldier maimed by a mine. Sabatini Building, floor 0.

For the centenary of Rilke’s death, 65 works on his bond with Spanish painting and his 1912-1913 journey through Toledo, Ronda and Madrid. El Greco’s View of Toledo comes from the Metropolitan, alongside Goya and Zuloaga. Room C, Jerónimos Building.

La Menesunda, the environment Marta Minujín and Rubén Santantonín built in Buenos Aires in 1965, is something you walk through rather than look at. This is the 2015 reconstruction by the Museo Moderno de Buenos Aires, made with the artist, shown in Spain for the first time.

Luis García Berlanga told through his personal archive, largely unpublished and catalogued with the Filmoteca Española: from his private life to his satirical eye on Spanish history. It reaches Madrid after the CaixaForums of Valencia, Barcelona and Seville.
