Francisco Mateos painted the Wounded Militiaman for the Republic’s pavilion at the 1937 Paris Exposition, the same one as Guernica. Made in haste on reused canvas, it is still flaking: it hangs tilted, under constant watch, beside a digital reconstruction.
23 September 2026 to 10 January 2027
Thirty-seven works, almost all from the la Caixa collection, by artists who quote the past: Miquel Barceló’s Mapa de carn looks to Guernica and the Taüll frescoes, and Mike Kelley’s cave is entered on all fours. The title comes from a Pasolini poem.

The Palestinian duo’s first show in Spain centres on an audiovisual installation about former Palestinian prisoners and the songs and poems with which they held out. Around it are earlier works across image, sound and text. Extended until January.
9 October 2026 to 28 February 2027
The first exhibition in Spain on Charlotte Perriand, the designer who joined Le Corbusier’s studio as an author rather than an assistant. The thread is her friendship with Josep Lluís Sert, whom she met there in 1928, the architect who later designed this building.

Fifty years of work by the Catalan textile artist Aurèlia Muñoz: collages, pictorial tapestries, macramé structures, her birds-kites and new paper installations, with drawings, models and archive material never shown before.

The apses of six Romanesque churches in the Pyrenees, among them Santa Maria de Taüll and Sant Pere del Burgal, removed and brought to the museum, get back the light and sound of the places they came from. A project by artist and curator Ona Balló.

More than 150 pieces from the British Museum on the Assyrian king who ruled when the empire reached its greatest extent, one of the most powerful and most forgotten rulers of antiquity. After Madrid, where it closed in early October, it moves to Barcelona.

Picasso never practised as an architect, yet he rethought space all his life: cities, studio interiors, the space cages of his late-1920s sculpture, his dialogue with Le Corbusier. Curated by Maria Isabel Navarro, Enrique Granell and Emmanuel Guigon.

The MNAC’s first major exhibition on Josep Maria Jujol stems from the donation of his archive, more than ten thousand papers, objects and pieces of furniture. It is shaped by an artist, Perejaume, who sets the architect beside Gaudí, Tatlin, Bruno Taut and Matisse.
It is always these 6, and I check them one by one. When a venue has nothing on I say so, with the date I checked: it is something you would otherwise have to look up museum by museum.
