Exhibitions on now in Barcelona

There are 7 exhibitions on in Barcelona worth the trip. I checked the dates, the venues and the opening hours one by one, on the museums’ own pages.

Last checked: 28 July 2026

CaixaForum Barcelona Av. de Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia, 6-8, 08038 Barcelona

Chez Matisse

27 March to 16 August 2026

Chez Matisse traces the French painter's trajectory and his influence on twentieth century avant-gardes, staged in the former Casaramona textile factory that now houses CaixaForum. At 6 euros, one of the cheapest major shows in Barcelona right now, free for under-16s.

Ticket

Museu Picasso Carrer de Montcada, 15-23, 08003 Barcelona
until 6 September 2026

Valérie Belin

17 April to 6 September 2026

About thirty photographs by Valérie Belin fill the temporary exhibition room at the Museu Picasso. She builds her portraits and still lifes entirely in studio, blurring photography and painting: not more Picasso, but a sharp dialogue of images.

Opening hours
mar/mer/dom 9:00-20:00; gio/ven/sab 9:00-21:00 (31 marzo - 27 settembre 2026)
Ticket
14 EUR online / 15 EUR in loco (collezione + mostra temporanea)

Kapwani Kiwanga. Changing States

30 April to 13 September 2026

Kapwani Kiwanga, the French Canadian artist who won the 2025 Joan Miró Prize, built this show for the Foundation's rooms, not a touring exhibition. Trained as an anthropologist, she looks at how architecture and materials shape power. Budget time to read the texts.

Museu Picasso Carrer de Montcada, 15-23, 08003 Barcelona
until 27 September 2026

Picasso Chipre: encuentros con la cerámica del Mediterráneo

6 June to 27 September 2026

This show sets Picasso's ceramics, made in Vallauris in the 1950s, alongside older Cypriot pottery traditions. A narrower angle than the usual retrospective, worth it to see how much archaic pottery Picasso studied before reworking it into his own plates and jugs.

Opening hours
mar/mer/dom 9:00-20:00; gio/ven/sab 9:00-21:00 (31 marzo - 27 settembre 2026)

Like a Dance of Starlings: MACBA Collection

28 November 2025 to 27 September 2026

For the collection's thirtieth anniversary, MACBA dropped the chronological hang and grouped 49 artists, including Basquiat and Esther Ferrer, around themes instead of decades. The fastest way to see what the museum has actually acquired over thirty years.

Antoni Tàpies. El moviment perpetu del mur

12 February to 27 September 2026

The show reconstructs four solo exhibitions Antoni Tàpies held in the 1950s, the decade he moved from surrealism into matter painting: sackcloth, sand, marks scratched into a wall-like surface. Staged in the foundation's own historic building, not a generic venue.

Opening hours
mar-sab 10:00-19:00; dom 10:00-15:00
Ticket
15 EUR generale; 9 EUR ridotto (studenti, over 65); gratis under 16

«Recuperado del enemigo». Los depósitos franquistas en el MNAC

20 February to 4 October 2026

This show tells the story of the so-called Francoist deposits: artworks seized during and after the Spanish Civil War that ended up in MNAC's storerooms, often without visitors knowing their origin. Small, but it faces a rarely explained part of the museum's history.

Opening hours
mar-sab 10:00-20:00 (orario estivo maggio-settembre); dom e festivi 10:00-15:00; lun chiuso
Ticket
